The ground in and around Winnie

Winnie sits on flat coastal prairie at the junction of I-10 and Highway 124, at an elevation of roughly twenty-three feet. This is rice and cattle country — historically farmed, generally open, and drained by a network of bayous and agricultural ditches running south toward East Bay. The soils are heavy clay with very little natural fall, which is why so much of the land work around Winnie is really drainage work wearing a different name.
