Land Clearing & Excavation in Crystal Beach, TX
Bolivar Peninsula is the most distinct ground we work on — sand instead of clay, salt instead of freshwater, and a construction pattern shaped entirely by storms.
The ground in and around Crystal Beach
Crystal Beach sits on the Bolivar Peninsula, a narrow barrier strip between the Gulf and East Bay reached by ferry from Galveston or by Highway 87 through Winnie. The ground is sand. It drains fast, it shifts, and it does not behave like anything else in our service area. Salt exposure is constant. Elevation above sea level is measured in single-digit feet across much of the peninsula.
What we're usually called out to do in Crystal Beach
Peninsula work is lot clearing ahead of an elevated build, pad and driveway work in sand, and demolition or debris removal on lots that still carry storm damage or an abandoned structure. Brush control on vacant lots for absentee owners is steady work out here too.
Permits and who has authority
Galveston County administers permitting and floodplain development on the unincorporated peninsula, and the regulatory framework around elevated construction here is stricter than anywhere else we work. Nothing should be assumed on Bolivar — check first.
What that means for your project
- Hurricane Ike removed most of the structures on this peninsula in 2008. Nearly everything standing has been built since, elevated on pilings, under a regulatory framework built around that experience. Lot work here is almost always in support of elevated construction.
- Sand behaves nothing like the clay we work in Chambers County. It does not hold a pond, it does not hold a cut slope the same way, and compaction behaves differently. Techniques do not transfer directly and we do not pretend they do.
- Access is via the ferry or the long way around through Winnie on Highway 87. That affects mobilization cost and scheduling, and it is why we group peninsula work where we can. Coming from Winnie, we take the land route.
